Summary: Ruby can't look back. Fractured by a terrible loss, she and the kids who survived the government's attack on Los Angeles travel north to regroup. Only Ruby can keep their highly dangerous prisoner in check, but with Clancy Gray, there's no guarantee you're fully in control and everything comes with a price.
When the Children's League disbands, Ruby rises up as a leader and forms an unlikely allegiance with Liam's brother, Cole, who has a volatile secret of his own. There are still thousands of other Psi kids suffering in government 'rehabilitation camps' all over the country. Freeing them-- revealing the government's unspeakable abuses in the process-- is the mission Ruby has claimed since her own escape from Thurmond, the worst camp in the country.
But not everyone is supportive of the plan Ruby and Cole craft to free the camps. As tensions rise, competing ideals threaten the mission to uncover the cause of IAAN, the disease that killed most of America's children and left Ruby and others with powers the government will try to keep contained. With the fate of a generation in their hands, there is no room for error. One wrong move could be the spark that sets the world on fire.
Memorable Quote: "'It's not a burden if people are willing to carry it.'"
I'm very impressed!! Endings are hard and can I just say that Alexandra Bracken NAILED IT!! It was incredibly intense and entertaining as well. It was funny but also heartbreaking. It had so many of the amazing characters I know and love with (even more) emotional depth. And it's one of the first endings in a while that actually had closure? It makes me so nervous to read The Darkest Legacy but we all know I'm going too, it's just a fact of life.
So, this is one of those books where even when you think it could end, turns out there's another cool subplot to be concluded. I don't know about you but I personally LOVE those kinds of books. There were so many storylines and I am a huge sucker for subplots and subships so that was definitely a fun, wild ride I enjoyed being on. And subplots are hard with one POV, but with Alexandra Bracken being some sort of witch or something, she managed to make that work.
Just like the other two books, I went on another emotional roller coaster and I was actually on the edge of my seat HOPING and PRAYING that my favorites didn't die because this book could kill anyone off at any time and I really wouldn't be surprised. Bracken is really not afraid to carve out her readers' hearts with a butter knife before stomping all over it and feeding it to the wolves...
Would I recommend? Yes!! A great ending to a great series!!
