Summary: Winning what you want may cost you everything you love. They were never meant to be together. As a general's daughter, seventeen-year-old Kestrel enjoys an extravagant and privileged life. Arin has nothing but the clothes on his back. Then Kestrel makes an impulsive decision that binds Arin to her. Though they try to fight it, they can't help but fall in love. In order to be together, they must betray their people... but to be loyal to their country, they must betray each other.

Memorable Quote: "Music made her feel as if she were holding a lamp that cast a halo of light around her, and while she knew there were people and responsibilities in the darkness behind it, she was pulsing to see them."

Does it sound really cheesy? Oh yeah, totally. Is it as cheesy as it sounds? Not at all!

I enjoyed the book! I'm fairly excited to see where the story goes. The cover is gorgeous and the concept, while interesting could use a bit of work. It's slightly basic and while summaries are supposed to be informative, this one gives away a bit too much. It kinda takes a bit of the shock factor away from some parts. It's really just that things kinda got hard to follow closer to the end, which was a bit frustrating. I had to stop and go back a lot, and even then it was kinda hard to follow.

Then there were some characters introduced really suddenly after meeting Kestrel, which makes some sense since she already knew them, but I wish we got more of an introduction with them. But even so, I didn't dislike the characters.

Overall, I really liked this series and I bet with a bit of smoothing out, the rest of the trilogy will go wonderfully.

Would I recommend? For sure!!
