Summary: Kady, Ezra, Hanna, and Nik narrowly escaped with their lives from the attacks on Heimdall station and now find themselves crammed with 2,000 refugees on the container ship, Mao. With the jump station destroyed and their resources scarce, the only option is to return to Kerena--but who knows what they'll find seven months after the invasion? Meanwhile, Kady's cousin, Asha, survived the initial BeiTech assault and has joined Kerenza's ragtag underground resistance. When Rhys--an old flame from Asha's past--reappears on Kerenza, the two find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict. With time running out, a final battle will be waged on land and in space, heroes will fall and hearts will be broken.

Memorable Quote: "Every story needs its hero. And its villain. And its monster."

What a perfect way to end a trilogy!! There was everything I'd want from this series, which was amazing and just everything about it was amazing. I did really enjoy the ride from this book and I hope to read more by Amie Kaufman and/or Jay Kristoff in the future.

To begin, I loved being able to keep on with the Kady/Ezra storyline and the Hanna/Nik storyline. Of course, Hanna and Nik still had my favorite storyline but I'll accept Asha's as well. It was still interesting and I still adored all the characters, but I have to say that the amount of main characters made it hard to follow. Of course, I have read books with a lot of main characters before (cough cough Six of Crows cough cough) but the amount of characters plus the format of the book made this book a bit hard to follow at times. Not that it took away enjoyment of the book, I just got confused a bit. They still had the 'random side character' perspective which I feel was even more important in this book, due to the horrid conditions aboard the Mao and that really did give a lot to the story.

Next the plot of the book was very interesting with the whole 'Will they make it back to Kerenza in time?!?' and the readdition of a (somewhat) fully functional AIDAN (who I will admit that I missed). There were times I was slightly bored by the plot since I did feel the book was a tad longer than it needed to be. Closer to the end, I lost interest in some of the things that were happening but that might've just been me and my short attention span. I still stick by the thought that some parts at the end were a bit pointless though, don't come for me.

Finally I just LOVED the uncertainty of the way it ended. People who know me will know I hate it when things are tied up with a little ribbon and there's no way for anything else to happen (JKR, I'm looking at you). I loved how this ended with the 'What if _______ does destroy Kerenza?' which I would love to see a fanfiction for if anyone would be willing too. I feel like books with uncertainty at the ending seem to grab me and keep my attention a lot longer because I can still think about all the 'What ifs' and 'maybes' rather than knowing the book's over and there's nothing I can add to it or whatever. Like, I bet I'll be thinking of this trilogy far into my next read due to its ending and maybe even after. I just overall adored this story and I'm so sad to say goodbye to the characters.

Would I recommend? 100%
